Diamantakou Estate is a family owned boutique winery, located in the heart of the Naoussa PDO zone in Mademi. With respect to the centuries-old viticultural tradition of the region, they look to the future and cultivate in their privately owned vineyards two indigenous varieties, Xinomavro and Preknadi.
The story begins in the vineyard of grandfather Giorgos Diamantakos, a first-generation viticulturist, in Isvori, Naoussa. There, under the roots of a large walnut tree, uprooted by the wind, was to be revealed the school of the philosopher Aristotle, where Alexander the Great is said to have studied. Thus, in 1978, the current land was purchased and the vineyard was planted, which surrounds the family winery, continuing the journey towards the wine search. In 1998, Evangelos Diamantakos, a second generation grape grower-winemaker, bottles the first wine. Coming to today, the annual production reaches 25,000 bottles.
Giorgos Diamantakos belongs to the third generation of winegrowers in the family. He grew up in the vineyard and manned up in the winery, having been taught by his parents to respect nature and love wine. Armed with these values and his studies in oenology and viticulture, in 2005 he returned to Naoussa and took over the Estate, leading it dynamically into the new era.
He is a representative of the new generation of Naoussa winemakers, who have given fresh breath and perspective to its wines. He is committed to producing wines with character, listening to his vineyard and learning from the grape. Passionate about his place and his profession, George aims to combine and express through his wines his philosophy, the two native grapes and his land at the highest point.
The multitude of work from the vine to the bottle is carried out by hand, emphasizing the noble contribution of the human factor to the concept of terroir and the preservation of biodiversity in the field. At the Estate, they create wines with passion and responsibility that highlight the two varieties within the unique ecosystem of Naoussa.
"We feel fulfilled and at the same time lucky to cultivate this piece of land."
George Diamantakos
Medium ruby color, mild aromatic intensity. Intense nose of rich red fruit dominated by red berry, cranberry, raspberry and red cherry, coexisting with distinct black fruits, mainly blueberry, raspberry, plum and black cherry and with the characteristic vegetality of the variety such as tomato and olive leaves along with sweet spices such as ginger and cloves. The purity of the fruit is distinct in the wine, without being isolated from the well-integrated oak aromas of vanilla, coconut, coffee and butterscotch. Dry, with high acidity, medium body framed by well-structured high tannins and moderate alcohol content. The intense flavor characteristics and the long aftertaste give the wine great aging potential.
Medium lemon color with mild aromatic intensity giving the nose white flowers, green fruits, citrus fruits, stone fruit, a hint of white pepper but also tropical fruits that alternate between banana, lychee and pineapple. In the mouth, the cool acidity combined with the pleasant intensity of the taste characteristics and the moderate alcoholic title marry beautifully to give a distinct primary stone fruit and spicy spices. The acidity levels and the intensity of the aromatic and flavor characteristics help the wine to continue its journey of aging in the bottle to round out and unfold beautiful tertiary honey aromas.
