In the early 1960s, Giuseppe Rivetti ("Pin") and his wife, Lydia, founded La Spinetta, with respect for tradition and an open mind for the future. Their children, following the values of their parents, took over the management of the winery and in 1977 they started producing the first Moscato, which was among the first single-cru Moscatos in Italy. They then expanded into red varieties, creating Barbera Ca di Pian in 1982 and Pin in 1989. At the same time, they launched Barbaresco Gallina (1995), Starderi (1996) and Valeirano (1997).
In 2000, the family acquired vineyards in Grinzane Cavour, and in 2001 they founded Casanova della Spinetta in Tuscany, insisting on growing the native Sangiovese variety. In 2011, with their passion for sparkling wines, they proceeded to acquire the historic Contratto winery in Piedmont, maintaining traditional production techniques. Their most recent initiative began in 2018, with the acquisition of vineyards in the hills of Tortona, aiming to cultivate the white Timorasso variety, which they consider capable of being compared to the best white wines in the world.
